New Lighting For The Bedroom & Installing A Ceiling Light Fixture

Over the past few weeks we have made some small additions throughout our home.  One of those additions was updating the lighting in our master bedroom.  We had some small Ikea lamps on our nightstands and that was the only source of light (besides the windows) in the room.  Rob was fine with the lamps but I like a lot of light!  So we updated to larger lamps and added a ceiling light too.

When looking for lamps, I knew I wanted to find something silver.  I felt with the feel of the room that silver would be a great choice - we found some beautiful ones at Crate & Barrel!

Here are the original lamps from Ikea.  They are tiny so didn't give us a lot of light!

Here are the new ones!

The lamps were an easy update but I also wanted to add a ceiling light.  I originally looked at chandeliers to put in the room.  However, since we don't have vaulted ceilings I thought a chandelier might make the ceiling look low.  I decided on a flush ceiling light from Lowes.  We learned a few tricks from installing the lights in the dining room and were able to hook up the light pretty easily.

First we put together the light fixture.

Then we double checked that the electric circuit was off!  We popped the cap off the ceiling and had to play with some wiring - this was a little easier than I thought it would be.  There are 3 different wires, a copper, a white, and a black wire.  We pulled the three wires out, took off the wire nut, and used a wire stripper to strip the white and black wires and get some bare wire showing.

Once that was done, we connected the wire from the ceiling to the wire from the fixture.  You just match up the colors and twist the matching wire together.  Then you cover the wire with the wire nut.  Rob was thrilled that I was taking photos through this process:)

Once the wires were connected and the wire nuts were on, we attached the glass fixture by screwing it to a bracket in the ceiling.

And now we have light!

Such a quick easy update!  The lamps add a nice touch to the room and the ceiling light is a huge plus!
Up next - curtains!
