Weekend Recap - Birthdays & Bars

Hi all!  Hope everyone had a great weekend!  We had a fun filled busy one!  My mom's 60th birthday was Friday so we had to make sure she felt loved and celebrated!  Despite the post title, we were not at the bars for her birthday (but more on our new bar below).  We all had an amazing dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and then brought mom back to our house to have cake and gifts.  You know I love some party planning and since we didn't have a party and couldn't decorate the restaurant, I decided to put some decorative pieces up to at least eat the cake and open gifts!

The cake was amazing and to keep the girly theme, I went with some pink poufs, wrapping paper, and roses.

Mom loved it!  She was so happy to spend time with the family and she liked her gifts too :)

On Saturday, Rob jumped right into working on the bar.  He is hoping to finish it before football season starts and I'm excited to show the progress he has made!  I'll be honest, I wasn't quite sure what to think when he started with this DIY bar idea but it looks awesome!  Here are some photos of the base that he finished last weekend.

He is also adding cabinets and drawers to the back of the bar.  You can see there will be a counter space and it will be similar to the bar top.

Here is a shot of the bar top, he stained this wood and put on a layer of sealant to get a shine to it.

Back to what Rob worked on this weekend.  He picked up stone that will cover the front and sides of the bar.  He went with light quartz and will add a slate tile to the step on the front of the bar.

I love the colors!

An example of how the stone and step will look.  You can also see where Rob is planning to put a TV on the wall.  Obviously you need a second TV in the mancave right?

Rob already has some decor up too - Go Gators!

The stone is coming along nicely!

He has a few more rows of stone to go - but I can't wait to share the finished product!
Along with that, we finally - FINALLY - looked at living room furniture this weekend.  We have been in the house for 7 months now and the "formal" living room has sat empty the whole time.  We were able to pick out a love seat and two accent chairs today so it will actually look like someone lives here now!  Well, in two months it will. 8-10 weeks for furniture delivery is for the birds.  It's ok though because I'm just so excited to have that room furnished!

That wraps up our fun and productive weekend!  Hope you have a great week!
